Amateurs, enthusiasts, professionals or just "curious”, attracted but shy, the “Salon de la Plongée” (Diving Fair) is the only annual event that allows everyone to satisfy his diving pleasure.

This 12th edition is far from merely the continuation of the previous editions and improving further to meet the wishes and desires of its visitors.

Enthusiasts will find the opportunity to interact with equipment manufacturers, and even try out some new features in the pool, to prepare their next trip whether in Britain, the Isle of Beauty or the Bahamas, with 'diving' destinations represented, to consult with specialists in training or protection of the oceans, to attend conferences on topics as diverse as conservation of sharks, diving virtual second life (e-learning and interactive games), underwater photography, underwater games ...

It’s also a good occasion in winter, to recharge while preparing future plans.

According to a survey of visitors and non-visitors between January 17 and March 31, 2009, divers wanted more equipment and more particularly new equipment presentation! They will be filled because not only exposure side, manufacturers are in number and expanding their space to present their innovations and their flagship product, but sell-side retailers will be even more present.

Divers have also asked for new animations. Again, the conference themes evolve, more focus on the preservation of oceans and sustainable development. Many internationally recognized experts to come share their thoughts with the public at the exhibition.

And it's also an opportunity for the "novice", the undecided, the shy and fearful of embarking on this new experience and enjoy the welfare that the state of weightlessness associated with breathing into the water provides.

From 8 to 88 years, baptisms dive in the 1, 2 meters deep pool are ideal for discover, with dedicated monitors, the pleasure of diving. The 250m² swimming pool is deep enough for diving and shallow enough to help the most undecided. This year, besides the usual animations, interactive screens enliven the path of the newly baptized.

It is a true example of success to see this event keep its assets which make it for 12 years the diving appointment that cannot be ignored, looking every year to improve both the exhibition and animations parts for the largest enjoyment of visitors and exhibitors.

History

The idea for creating the Diving Fair provides from a simple fact: the event did not exist and the world of diving, economic sector in its own, brings together different and complementary professions under a common theme.

After a year of preparation, the first edition comes with some forty exhibitors under a tent at Aquaboulevard Paris. The pool is immediately used for baptisms.

The 2nd edition will be held also at Aquaboulevard. Despite the installation of a second tent and wider aisles, success is such that there was a lack of space. The question arises from a change of physical place.

In 2001, the Salon de la Plongée takes his quarters at the Parc des Expositions at the Porte de Versailles and used a pool that is still in use today. The 3rd edition is again experiencing success. New exhibitors joining the faithful one’s of the first edition.

In 2002, the Fair advances its dates and passes in February at the request of exhibitors. For its water attractions, the show brings in heaters for the pool. New success. The Salon becomes essential.

2003 for its fifth edition, the Salon de la Plongée innovates in choosing a Honorius destination: Tahiti and its islands make the ambiance! It's snowing outside and the queue to get in does not discourage visitors. This Salon is memorable: Vahines, dancers, tattoos and beer Hinano enchant visitors.

2004, 2005, 2006: Salon de la Plongée grows again. Still, more surface, more exhibitors, more visitors. Among the exhibitors, more and more foreign companies come to Paris to meet a French speaking public (French, Luxembourgers, Swizzes, Belgians ...). Many personalities visit the Show: HRH Prince Albert of Monaco has supported free diver Stéphane Mifsub during his record attempt in static apnea in the fair’s pool, the Tourism Minister Xavier Bertrand to take this opportunity to conduct a conference on impact of Tsunami in December 2004.

For 2007, the fair is housed in the new Hall 5 at Porte de Versailles, in an area of approximately 13 000 m². Exhibitors growing in number are becoming more professional with larger booths, complete teams, animations ever more numerous and a dynamic, which is bringing together all actors of scuba diving.

The 10th edition of the show opens again in the prestigious Hall 5, an anniversary edition that saw the exhibitors making even more efforts and always enthusiastic visitors. Evening for the public, exceptional entertainment ... 10 Years of Diving Fair, must be celebrated with a party!

The Fair gets an international approval: now, over 30% of exhibitors are foreign companies.

In 2009, the Fair opens in the midst of crisis, with some anxiety and, finally, from the 1st day, the relaxed smiles give way to tensions. The visitors are here and there. The second decade begins with a new success.

2010 is giving the honor to the islands

Why islands? It's simple, by definition an island is surrounded by water and no one can practice diving without water!

Seriously ... Scuba diving is an activity that is practiced all around the world. Although there are many who practice in the pool, we can not dissociate the diving and underwater soils including those from warm waters.

Since 2004, the Salon de la Plongée selected each year a destination to be in the spotlight. We have discovered over the years, dream destinations like Tahiti, Thailand, Reunion, Martinique, the Philippines ...

This year, the initial idea has been enhanced to allow multiple destinations to work together to develop richer animations. All “islands” destinations that wish will be highlighted and the Salon de la Plongée can already count on destinations like the Bahamas, Corsica, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, New Caledonia, the Philippines, Porquerolles, Reunion, Seychelles, Tahiti, ...

By working together we have determined common themes dear to us all: biodiversity, environment, sustainable development and territory planning.
